Manchester United too stubborn over De Gea but Madrid will survive.

The former Blancos keeper believes Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla are capable options if the Red Devils continue to play hard ball, and says Iker Casillas deserved better

Real Madrid will have good enough options in goal even if Manchester United are "too stubborn" and keep hold of David De Gea, according to former shot-stopper Paco Buyo.

Madrid have been trying to sign De Gea for the duration of the summer but with no breakthrough in talks the Spain keeper has been banished from United's first-team squad by manager Louis van Gaal.

Buyo, who spent 11 years with los Blancos between 1986 and 1997, believes it is inevitable that De Gea will end up at the Santiago Bernabeu, but says his former club have good enough options in Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla anyway.

"It seems De Gea will play for Real. This season? Possibly," he told Omnisport. "If Van Gaal and United are not too stubborn and they don’t ask for too much money, De Gea will come this season. Otherwise, Real Madrid just can wait three months and sign him for free and Manchester will earn nothing.

He added: "Real don't have any problem having two goalkeepers. Both of them are great. Navas had a fantastic season at Levante two years ago and then with Costa Rica at the World Cup. It seems Navas could be the starter.

"Then we’ve got as well Kiko Casilla. He started his career in Real Madrid when he was young before [going to] Espanyol. I do believe even if De Gea doesn’t come, Real Madrid won’t have big problems with the keepers."

Real Madrid sold club icon Iker Casillas to Porto earlier this summer, bringing down the curtain on a tumultuous final few seasons at the Bernabeu for a man who made over 500 appearances for the club, winning a multitude of trophies, including three Champions Leagues and five league titles.

The 34-year-old was jeered and whistled by a section of the club's supporters in recent years and his official send-off was criticised by many in Spain, and Buyo says his departure should have been handled better.

“I think Casillas leaving Real Madrid was unfair because they are letting go a player who was awesome and a key player in Real Madrid history, at least the last part of their history," he added.

"He was a really key player, winning the best trophies, so I think it’s unfair because he had two seasons left on his contract. I have also seen an unfair way from the supporters because some of them didn’t like Casillas’ performances in the last two seasons. So I think Iker Casillas deserved a better exit from Real Madrid."
